What Kira is actually grading (it isn't your English)

If a Kira interview is sitting in your inbox this cycle, take a breath. I recorded a new video recently that walks through the whole thing, and I want to give you the most important piece right here.

Most applicants assume Kira is a test of polish. It isn't.

You get a question, typically 5 to 20 seconds to think, then 60 to 90 seconds to answer. One attempt. The questions come from a bank, so you will not know them in advance.

Here's what the rubric actually rewards: clear communication, a specific and believable reason for this program, the ability to think on the spot, and whether you seem like someone your classmates would want in a study group.

Notice what's missing from that list. Perfect grammar. A flawless accent. Studio lighting.

Every year I watch international applicants lose points not because their English is imperfect, but because their answer could have been sent to any school.

The reviewer has watched forty of these today. What they remember is structure and specific detail.

In the video I cover the three mistakes that get strong applicants rejected, and exactly how to prepare in focused reps rather than months.

Watch it β†’ HERE.

That’s it for this week.

Keep showing up, keep cheering each other on β€” and as always, happy applying! πŸ’›

The MiM search that is quietly shrinking your school list
Master in Management. MS in Commerce. Master of Management Studies. You are probably reading those as three different degrees. They are not. Duke, UVA, Chicago Booth, Northwestern Kellogg, LSE, Cornell, INSEAD, Michigan Ross, and London Business School each offer its version of the same thing: the pre-experience MiM. A former admissions officer told me recently she wishes the schools used one n...
Deferred MBA admission is harder than the regular round. Here's why you still might want it.
There is a version of MBA admissions that happens while you are still in college, and almost nobody knows it exists. It is called deferred admission. You apply in the spring of your final year, before you have worked a single day. If you get in, that school, for example, Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, or Booth will hold your seat while you go work for two to five years. Then you enroll and begin t...
The scholarship money that never makes it to the website
My students have won over $1 million in scholarships over the years, and I can tell you the biggest reason most applicants get nothing. It usually isn't a weak profile. It's that they never found out the money existed in the first place. Here is what you need to know: Most merit scholarships are automatic. Your application is your scholarship application. There's no second chance at it, and bec...
