Is a Master's Degree Still Worth It in 2026?
If you have typed that question into Google recently, you are not being dramatic, and you are not alone.
The honest answer is: it depends. But rather than leaving it there, my latest video walks you through exactly what it depends on. Here are the highlights:
The deal that graduate school once offered - credential in, career path out - has changed. AI is reshaping hiring, visa policy is shifting, and the salary premium that once made the math automatic is no longer guaranteed. That does not make a master's degree a bad investment. It makes it an investment worth even more consideration.
There are five (5) variables that determine whether the degree is worth it for you: program-to-goal fit, debt load versus expected salary delta, opportunity cost, personal development needs, and external risk. Here are the five diagnostic questions you can apply to your own situation:
- Do I have a working hypothesis for my career direction, and is this program serving that direction?
- Have I done the debt-to-salary delta math with realistic numbers β and does it work?
- What am I giving up by going, and am I at a point in my career where that cost is worth it?
- Am I someone who genuinely needs this environment to grow?
- Given everything I cannot control over the next 3β5 years, am I comfortable making this bet?
If you can answer "yes" to at least three (3) of them with honesty and specificity, you have a real case for pursuing this path.

Thatβs it for this week.
Keep showing up, keep cheering each other on β and as always, happy applying! π
